Liebster Award Nomination
So I got nominated for the Liebster Award by a fellow blogger way back in June and I’m just getting to post it now. Sigh…*cue music* “I’d like to thank the Academy, fellow bloggers, readers…I love you guys! Thank you!” *sashays away*.
Really, it means a lot to be recognized by a fellow blogger and adds more fire to my spirit as a 10 month old blogger still learning the ins and outs of this…multi-skilled profession.
Thank you so much to Alicia, half of the duo of Joe & Alicia, from Miles Less Traveled for nominating me for a 2018 Liebster award. These fellow NYC folks have done 4 continents already with tips on activities to do and foods to eat on their travels.
What is the Liebster Award?
The Liebster award is a way to connect and promote the blogging community by the recognition of bloggers by other bloggers. The person who nominates you and others, asks a series of questions that you answer within a blog post – such as this – where you get to nominate your own favourite bloggers and ask questions of them. Get it?
In this spirit, I get to answer questions that Alicia posed to me so here goes:
- What is the most memorable conversation you have ever had while traveling? (It can be with a stranger, friend, travel partner, whoever!).
Answer: Hmmn…my first time to Havana with girlfriends, we tried to ask questions and understand citizens more in our horrible Spanish. Many men were shocked when they discovered that no man (husband or father) paid for our trip and that we took no permission from anyone to travel. True.
We were shocked that they would think that we couldn’t pay our way. We explained to them that we worked, planned for the trip and saved money. Another time, a cabbie engaged us in conversation about race. He told us that in Cuba, everyone was equal regardless of colour. I wanted to ask more questions but my complex questions were too much for my limited Spanish.
- If you were only allowed to use one form of transportation to travel for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Answer: Train! I love trains. Growing up in England and living in France afterwards, train travel was a regular part of journeys within and outside the country. Not only does it emit less emissions than automobiles and air travel, it can also be very scenic and restful. I want to experience one of those luxurious European train travels similar to the Orient Express.
- What fears have the potential to keep you awake at night?
Answer: Ooohhh! Girl, this is deep lol. Nothing travel related and I’ll try not to get existential and expose my inner insecurities in this light piece so…hmmnn…I fear ill health because health is wealth, not finding a loving and compatible man for me and not being able to afford property. Eeek! The rent is too damn high in New York City!
- What is your must-do activity whenever you visit somewhere new?
Answer: Walk. I walk in a new environment and get lost. That is how you discover places and activities not necessarily on the tourist map. You also get to meet and interact with citizens. My recent solo trip to Copenhagen saw me interacting with a lot of people on the street.
A Romanian guy literally stopped me, complimented my braids and asked me out for coffee. I drink tea so off we went to a cafe to keep warm and chat about the city and his country. Very enlightening. Do you think I would’ve followed a stranger to have coffee on the mean streets of NYC?? No ma’am! But I did it in Copenhagen because I was already out of my comfort zone on a solo trip and this was part of the experience. Of course, I felt safe, else I wouldn’t have done it.
- If you were going to travel in full disguise as a famous person, who would it be and why?
Answer: That’s a toughie. Hmmn. Maybe as Oprah. I’d be in disguise and watch how people address and interact with me and then boom! Show them my real Oprah face and watch the mean ones fawn over me *eye roll*.
- What limitations do you believe have held you back from living the life you most want?
Answer: Caution. I’m overly cautious, which is good, but can be limiting at times because it keeps you from venturing out. How does that saying go again?

- What is your “must-eat” meal as soon as you get back from a trip?
Answer: Not a meal but I must have a proper Earl Grey cuppa whenever I get back. Always. Even though I always have tea abroad, something is always different: the water, brand, mug or milk. Once home, I make my cuppa in my worn mug and lounge on my sofa to rest.
Now, my turn. I nominate the following bloggers for a Liebster Award.
Maggie McKneely of Pink Caddy Travelogue.
Manuel & Roberto of Villa Paradiso
Trudy of Rendezvous en New York
Mary Lane of New York Cliche
Guys, it’s your turn to answer these questions and nominate your favourite bloggers too.
- What is the story behind your favourite Instagram picture?
- What is the favourite blog post that you’ve written?
- What travel destination stands out for you and why?
- What was your scariest moment during travel?
- Have you ever been trapped in a place with political crises?
- Where are you based and what are the main things people should do/see/eat when they visit?
Once again, thank you Alicia, for the nomination!
